We’re deep in 2025, and I have admit to being a bit lazy on the “news” updates. Probably because the actual news – the world around me – is going pretty nuts. It has become clear that the kind of nourishment I need lately, for the strength of my mind and the health of my soul, is human connection. Or, as I read recently in a NY Times column (David Brooks, with whom I don’t always agree):
“I’ve found it necessary, in this increasingly pagan age, to root myself in anything that feels rehumanizing, whether it’s art or literature or learning.”
For me, it’s music…one of the main places that I currently find human connection. Rehearsals, gigs, and supporting our community provide a welcome and much-needed respite. I’m feeling very fortunate to play music with talented professionals that make me laugh and raise the bar every time (especially those 3-part harmonies!). It does my heart good, and I really hope music does the same for you.
